Appendix 1
Guide for Creating Additional Learning Activities
As you think about the needs of those in your class, you may identify a section from Preach My Gospel that you feel is important but is not addressed in these course materials. This guide can help you create a customized learning experience for your class.
Key Components for Learning Activities
There are three key sections for each learning activity in this course: (1) study, (2) practice, and (3) set a goal. The following guidelines can help you incorporate these key sections into the additional learning activities you create for your class.
Study
Determine what learners will study
-
Which paragraphs from Preach My Gospel will you invite learners to study?
-
Keep time constraints in mind. Generally, it is better to focus on a small section and go deeper than trying to cover a lot of material. Be sure to leave plenty of time for practice and application.
-
-
Are there scriptures or statements from Church leaders that could be used to support or enhance what learners are studying from Preach My Gospel?
Determine how learners will study
-
How can you help learners see the relevance of this section of Preach My Gospel? Is there an example, scenario, question, story, picture, personal experience, or short video that will help prepare them for learning?
-
What questions will you ask? (Record some questions that can help learners explore their thoughts and feelings.)
Will class members work alone, with partners, or in a small group?
Practice
-
What can class members do to practice what they have learned? For example, you could:
-
Give learners time to explain or teach what they have been studying in their own words.
-
Present a scenario and ask class members to use what they have learned to help the person in the scenario.
-
Set a goal
Conclude the learning activity by inviting class members to set a goal that relates to what they learned. Consider providing a few examples of possible goals they could set. Then give learners time to record their goals.
