Salem See also Jerusalem; Melchizedek The city in the Old Testament where Melchizedek ruled. It may have been located at the site of present-day Jerusalem. The name Salem is very similar to a Hebrew word meaning “peace.” Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine, Gen. 14:18. Melchisedec, king of Salem, was a priest of the most high God, Heb. 7:1–2. Melchizedek was a king over the land of Salem, Alma 13:17–18.
