Tongue See also Tongues, Gift of A symbol for speech. The Saints are to control their tongues, meaning that they are to control their speech. Tongue also refers to languages and peoples. Eventually, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess to God (Isa. 45:23; Rom. 14:11). Keep thy tongue from evil, Ps. 34:13 (1 Pet. 3:10). Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles, Prov. 21:23. If any man bridleth not his tongue, this man’s religion is vain, James 1:26. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, James 3:1–13. The gospel will be preached to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, Rev. 14:6–7 (2 Ne. 26:13; Mosiah 3:13, 20; D&C 88:103; 112:1). The Lord grants unto all nations, of their own nation and tongue, to teach his word, Alma 29:8. These plates shall go forth unto every nation, kindred, tongue, and people, Alma 37:4. Obtain my word, and then shall your tongue be loosed, D&C 11:21. Every man shall hear the fulness of the gospel in his own tongue, D&C 90:11.
