Priesthood Leaders in Ghana Come Together to be Taught Laws of Performing Marriages

On 30 January 2021, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Africa West Area Office of General Counsel together with officers of the registrar general’s department in Accra, organized a training for priesthood leaders on performing marriages in Ghana. The training was held at the Christiansborg Stake center in Accra. The meeting was attended by priesthood leaders from throughout Ghana which included attendees from Sunyani, Tamale, Mpintsin, Takoradi, Cape Coast, Assin Fosu, Assin Fosu South, Kumasi, Yamoransa and Accra.

The training was presented by the chief staff attorney, Mr. Oladele Kwaku Aribike of The registrar general’s office, and his team. Training is a requirement in Ghana for priesthood leaders to be licensed as marriage officers. This training consisted of the laws governing traditional marriages in Ghana and the laws and procedures governing civil marriages.

There was a second training with the registrar general’s personnel in Kumasi on 13 March 2021 for priesthood leaders who were not able to attend this training in Accra.
