Angatonú Ko e Fakavaʻe ʻo ha Moʻui Faka-Kalaisi

Mei ha lea ʻi ha fakatahaʻanga lotu naʻe fai he ʻaho 6 ʻo Tīsema 2011, ʻi he ʻUnivēsiti ko Pilikihami ʻIongí. Ke maʻu e fakamatala kakato he lea faka-Pilitāniá, ʻalu ki he speeches.byu.edu.

ʻEletā Tad R. Callister

Ko e angatonú ko e loto toʻa ia ke fai ʻa e meʻa ʻoku totonú neongo ʻa e ngaahi haʻahaʻá mo e taʻe fakafiemālié.

Ko e tulama ʻiloa ko ia ʻa Robert Bolt ko e A Man for All Seasons ko e talanoa ia ʻo Sir Thomas More. … Pehē foki ʻi he paʻangá. … pe fiefiá. ʻOku ʻi ai maʻu pē ha mahuʻinga ki he ngaahi tuʻungá (titles), houʻeiki fefiné, ngaahi koloa fakatuʻasinó.”1

Ko e kaveinga ia ʻo e foʻi tulamá. Ko e kaveinga foki ia ʻo e moʻuí. ʻOku ʻi ai nai ha tangata pe fefine he māmaní he ʻikai ke lava ʻo fakatau, pe ʻoku mahulu ʻene angatonú ʻi ha faʻahinga mahuʻinga?

ʻI he hoko atu ʻo e foʻi tulamá, ne loto ʻa Tuʻi Henelī VIII ke veteʻi ʻa e Kuini ko Kefiliní (Catherine) kae mali mo ʻEni Polini (Anne Boleyn).

Ko Sir Thomas More, ʻa ia naʻe ʻofaʻi mo saiʻia ai ʻa e kakai tuʻá, ko ha taha, taʻe-poupou—naʻe ʻikai tuku ia ʻe hono konisēnisí ke fakamoʻoni ʻi he fuakavá. Naʻe ʻikai fie tukulolo, pea naʻa mo e fie maʻu ʻe he tuʻí. Pea hoko leva hono siviʻí. Naʻe fai ʻe hono ngaahi kaungāmeʻá hono fakahekehekeʻí mo hono teké, ka ne ʻikai pē tukulolo. Naʻe faʻao ʻene koloá, toʻo hono tuʻungá, mo hono fāmilí, ka naʻe ʻikai pē fakamoʻoni ia. Fāifai, pea fakamāuʻi hala ia ʻi heʻene moʻuí, ka naʻe ʻikai pē ke holomui.

Kuo nau toʻo meiate ia ʻene paʻangá, hono mālohi fakapolitikalé, hono ngaahi kaungāmeʻá, pea mo hono fāmilí—pea ʻe aʻu ʻo nau toʻo mo ʻene moʻuí—ka ʻoku ʻikai ke nau lava ʻo toʻo meiate ia ʻene angatonú. ʻOku ʻikai fakatau ia ʻi ha faʻahinga mahuʻinga.

Ko e tumutumu ʻo e foʻi tulamá, ko hono fakamāuʻi hala ʻo Sir Thomas More ki he talisoné. Naʻe fai ʻe Sir Richard Rich ʻa e fakamatala fuakava loi naʻe fie maʻu ke moʻua aí. ʻI he hū ki tuʻa ʻa Sē Lisiate mei he fale hopó, ne fehuʻi ange ʻe Sē Tōmasi Moa ki ai, “Ko ha seini fakaʻōfisi ʻena ʻokú ke tuí. … Ko e hā [ia]?”

Tali ange ʻe he Talatalaaki ko Thomas Cromwell, “Kuo fokotuʻu ʻa Sē Lisiate ko e ʻĀteni Seniale ki Uēlesi.”

Sio ʻa More ki he fofonga ʻo Lisí ʻi he mata fakaʻiseʻisa mo pehē ange, “Ki Uēlesi?

Ngaahi Tefitoʻi Moʻoni ʻo e Angatonú

ʻOku ou fie fakamatala ki ha tefitoʻi moʻoni ʻe fitu ʻo e angatonú ʻoku ou ʻamanaki te nau ueʻi kitautolu ke tau ʻai ʻa e ʻulungaanga faka-Kalaisi ko ʻení ke hoko ko ha tefitoʻi ʻulungaanga mahuʻinga ʻi heʻetau moʻui fakafoʻituituí.

1. Ko e angatonú ko e fakavaʻe ia ʻo hotau ʻulungāngá mo e ʻulungaanga lelei kehe kotoa pē. Naʻe kamata ʻe he Kāingalotú he 1853 hono langa ʻo e Temipale Sōlekí. Meʻamālié, he naʻe fili ʻe Palesiteni ʻIongi ʻa e fika uá.3

Ko e angatonú ko e fakavaʻe ia ʻoku langa ai ʻa e ʻulungāngá mo e moʻui faka-Kalaisí. Kapau ʻoku ʻi ai ha ngaahi mafahifahi ʻi he fakavaʻe ko iá, pea ta heʻikai ke ne lava ʻo mafuesia ʻa e mamafa ʻo e ngaahi ʻulungaanga faka-Kalaisi kehe kuo pau ke langa aí. ʻE lava fēfē ke tau loto fakatōkilalo kapau ʻoku ʻikai ke tau angatonu ʻo fakahaaʻi hotau ngaahi vaivaí? ʻE anga fēfē ke tau ʻofa ki he niʻihi kehé kapau ʻoku ʻikai ke tau faitotonu ʻi heʻetau fengāueʻaki mo kinautolú? ʻE lava fēfē ke tau fakatomala mo maʻa kapau ʻoku tau tala fakakonga pē ʻa e moʻoní ki heʻetau pīsopé?

ʻI ha ngaahi meʻa ʻe niʻihi, ʻe ala fie maʻu ai kitautolu ke tau foua e ngaahi meʻa fakamamahi ʻo e toʻo ʻo e fakavaʻe lolotonga ne langa ʻi he kākaá kae fetongi tahataha ʻaki ia ha fakavaʻe ʻo e angatonú. Ka ʻe lava pē ʻo fakahoko.

2. ʻOku ʻikai ko e angatonú ʻa e fai pē ʻo e meʻa ʻoku fakalaó ka mo ia ʻoku totonu mo faka-Kalaisí. ʻOku ʻikai ko e angatonú ʻa e muimui pē ki he laó; ʻoku toe kau ai mo e talangofua ki he ngaahi lao totonu ʻoku māʻolunga angé. ʻOku hangē ia ko hono fokotuʻu mai ʻe he palesiteni ʻo e ʻIunaiteti Siteití ko ʻĒpalahame Lingikoní: moʻui fakatatau mo e “kau ʻāngelo lelei ange ʻo hotau natulá.”5

ʻOku ʻi ai ʻa e fatongia totonu ʻo e talavou kotoa pē ke ne maluʻi mo leʻohi ʻa e angamaʻa ʻo e taha ʻokú na teití, pea ʻoku maʻu ʻe he finemui kotoa pē ʻa e fatongia totonu tatau pehē ki he taha ʻokú na teití. Ko ha sivi ia ʻo ʻena angatonú. Ko ha tangata pe fefine ʻoku fāifeinga ke angatonú, te ne fokotuʻu ha tukupā mo ha ivi mapuleʻi ʻe mahulu hake pea naʻa mo e ngaahi ongo mālohi ʻo e ngaahi ongo fakaesinó. Ko e anga fakaʻeiʻeiki ki he ʻOtuá pea kiate kita mo e niʻihi kehé ʻokú ne poupouʻi mo fakaivia kinautolú pea naʻa mo e taimi ʻoku tukuange mai ai ʻe Sētane ʻene ngaahi mahafu tau ʻo e ngaahi ʻahiʻahi fakaeangamaʻá kiate kinautolú. Naʻe pehē ʻe he ʻEikí ki he toʻu tangatá ni, “Te u fokotuʻu hake kiate au ha kakai haohaoa” (T&F 100:16). ʻOku falala mai ʻa e ʻOtuá ke tau hoko ko e toʻutangata ko iá.

Naʻá ku fie maʻu mo hoku hoa ngāue ʻi he ngaahi taʻu kuo hili atú ke tuli ha taha ngāue. Hili haʻama pōtalanoa ne ma felotoi ke totongi huhuʻi ia ʻi heʻene ngaahi ngāué. Naʻá ku ongoʻi naʻe lahi ange ʻa e totongí ʻi he tuʻunga totonú, ka naʻe kei maumau pē homau vaá ʻi he aleá. ʻI he pō ko iá ne u ongoʻi mamahi. Naʻá ku feinga ke tekeʻi ʻaki haʻaku fakaʻuhinga ʻiate au pē naʻá ku fai totonu, ka naʻe ʻikai mavahe ʻa e ongo ia ko ʻení. Fāifai pea haʻu e ongo ko ʻení: “ʻOku ʻikai feʻunga hoʻo fai totonu peé; kuo pau ke ke toe feinga ke anga faka-Kalaisi.” ʻOku hoko ʻa e muimui ki he ngaahi lao māʻolunga taha ʻo e faitotonú ko ha fakaʻilonga ʻo ha tangata pe ha fefine ʻoku angatonu.

3. ʻOku fakahoko ʻe he angatonú ʻa e tuʻutuʻuní ʻo makatuʻunga ʻi ha ngaahi fakakaukau ʻoku taʻengata. ʻI heʻene sio haké, ne ne fakatokangaʻi ha taha ʻo hono ngaahi kaungāmeʻá ʻoku kākā he siví. Ne fetaulaki hona matá. Ne fakamafuta pē ʻe hono kaungāmeʻá hono umáa ʻi heʻene maá, mo fafana mai “ʻOku ou fie maʻu ha maaka lelei.” Hangē ne mole ʻi he finemuí ni ʻene vīsone taʻengatá—ʻoku ʻikai ko e māká ka ko e tuʻunga fakaʻotuá ʻa hotau ikuʻangá. Ko e hā hano lelei ke tali kitautolu ʻi he ngaahi ʻunivēsiti ʻiloa tahá kae mole hotau hakeakiʻí ʻi hono ngāueʻí? ʻI heʻene sio nounoú, ne fili ai ia ki ha paʻanga ʻe taha he ʻahó ni kae ʻikai ko e koloa taʻe-fakangatangata ʻi he moʻui ka hokó.

Naʻe talamai ʻe he Tuʻi ko Penisimaní kiate kitautolu ʻa e founga te tau lava ai ʻo liliu hotau ngaahi angá mei he tangata fakakakanó ʻo hoko ko ha tangata fakalaumālie: “He ko e tangata fakakakanó ko e fili ia ki he ʻOtuá, pea kuo pehē ai pē talu mei he hinga ʻa ʻĀtamá, pea taʻengata, kae ʻoua kuó ne talangofua ki he ngaahi fakahinohino ʻa e Laumālie Māʻoniʻoní, pea liʻaki ʻa e tangata fakakakanó kae hoko ko ha tangata māʻoniʻoni ʻi he fakalelei ʻa Kalisi ko e ʻEikí, pea hoko ʻo anga tatau mo ha tamasiʻi siʻi, angavaivai, angamalū, loto fakatōkilalo, faʻa kātaki, fonu ʻi he ʻofa, pea loto fiemālie ke fakavaivai ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ʻafioʻi ʻe he ʻEikí ʻoku lelei ke ne faí, ʻo hangē ʻoku fakavaivai ʻe ha tamasiʻi siʻi ki heʻene tamaí” (Mōsaia 3:19; ko e toki tānaki atu hono fakamamafaʻí).

4. Ko e angatonú ko hono fakahā kakato ʻo e moʻoní ʻo ʻikai ha toe meʻa ka koe moʻoní pē. ʻOku ou tui ʻe lava pē ʻEikí ke kātakiʻi hotau ngaahi vaivaí mo e fehālākí, kapau te tau fakahaaʻi ha loto holi mo feinga ke fakatomala. Ko e taumuʻa kakato ia ʻo e Fakaleleí. Ka ʻoku ʻikai ke u tui te Ne lava ʻo kātakiʻi ngofua pē ha loto kākā pe ʻelelo loi.

Naʻá ku fakahoko ʻi he ngaahi taʻu siʻi kuo hilí ha ʻaʻahi ki ha misiona. Naʻe faingataʻaʻia ha niʻihi ʻo e kau faifekaú ʻi he talangofuá. Naʻá ku fakahoko mo e palesiteni fakamisioná ʻi he efiafi ko iá ha ʻinitaviu mo ha niʻihi ʻo e kau faifekaú. ʻI he pongipongi hono hokó, ne kamata ʻe he palesiteni fakamisioná ʻemau konifelenisi fakasouní ʻaki haʻane fai ha lea fakaʻofoʻofa moʻoni ʻi he angatonú. Naʻá ku ongoʻi ai ke toe lea ʻi he kaveinga pē ko iá. Naʻá ma kole ki he kau faifekaú ke ʻoua te nau fai ʻa e faʻahinga meʻa ko ia ke toki tala pē ʻe ha taha ʻa e moʻoní kapau ʻoku fai ange ʻa e fehuʻi totonu mo fakahangatonú.

Naʻe ʻi ai ʻa e Laumālié, pea naʻe haʻu fakapulipuli ha kau faifekau ʻe toko fā mei he pō ki muʻá ʻo pehē, “ʻOku ʻi ai ha meʻa ke mau toe fakahā atu.” Naʻá ne fetongi hono fakavaʻe ʻoneʻoné ʻi he ʻaho ko iá ʻaki ha fakavaʻe maka kalānite ʻo e angatonú.

5. Ko e angatonú ʻoku ʻikai fakangalingali pe kumi ʻuhinga. ʻOku ʻi ai ha faʻahinga meʻa fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻi ha tangata pe fefine ʻokú ne tala hono ngaahi vaivaí mo tali fie tali hono tukuakiʻí ʻo ʻikai kumi ʻuhinga pe fakangalingali. Naʻe tā-tuʻo lahi hono lekooti ʻe Siosefa Sāmita hono ngaahi vaivaí ʻi he Tokāteline mo e Ngaahi Fuakavá ke lau ʻe he taha kotoa. ʻOku talamai ʻe he meʻá ni naʻe ʻikai haohaoa, ka ʻokú ne toe talamai foki naʻe ʻikai ha meʻa ke ne fufuuʻi—ko ha tangata angatonu ia. Ko e hā ʻoku fai ʻe he meʻá ni ʻi he taimi naʻá ne fakahā ai ʻa e talanoa ʻo ʻene ʻUluaki Mata Meʻa-hā-maí pe ko e fakamatala ʻo e ngaahi ʻaʻahi mai ʻa Molonaí? ʻOkú ne talamai te tau lava ʻo falala ki ai, te tau lava ʻo tui ki heʻene foʻi lea kotoa pē koeʻuhí, he ʻoku moʻoni, ko ha tangata angatonu ia.

6. Ko e angatonú ko hono tauhi ia ʻo ʻetau ngaahi fuakavá mo ʻetau ngaahi tukupaá, ʻo aʻu ai pē ki he taimi ʻoku ʻikai faingamālie aí. Ko e angatonú ko e loto toʻa ia ke fai ʻa e meʻa ʻoku totonú ʻo tatau ai pē pe ko e hā ʻe hokó mo ʻene taʻe fakafiemālié. Naʻe fai ʻe Palesiteni N. ʻElitoni Tena (N. Eldon Tanner) (1898–1982), ko ha Tokoni ʻUluaki ki muʻa ʻi he Kau Palesitenisī ʻUluakí, ʻa e talanoa ko ʻení:

“Naʻe haʻu ha talavou ʻikai fuoloa atu kiate au ʻi hoku ʻōfisí ʻo pehē, ‘Naʻá ku fai ha alea mo ha tangata ʻo fie maʻu ai ke u fai ha ngaahi totongi fakafoki ʻi he taʻu kotoa pē. ʻOku tōmui ʻeku totongí, pea he ʻikai ke u lava ʻo fai e ngaahi totongi ko iá, he kapau te u fai ia, ʻe iku mole ai hoku ʻapí. Ko e hā te u faí?

“Naʻá ku sio pē kiate ia peá u pehē ange, ‘Tauhi hoʻo aleapaú.’

“‘Tatau ai pē ka mole ai hoku ʻapí?’

“Naʻá ku talaange, ‘ʻOku ʻikai ko ʻeku lau ʻeni fekauʻaki mo ho ʻapí. Ko ʻeku lau ʻeni fekauʻaki mo hoʻo aleá; pea ʻoku ou tui ʻe fie maʻu ange ʻe ho uaifí ha husepāniti ʻoku fai ki heʻene aleá, fakahoko hono ngaahi ngafá, tauhi ʻene ngaahi fakapapaú pe ko ʻene ngaahi fuakavá, kae nofo totongi ʻi ha ʻapi, ʻi hano maʻu ha ʻapi mo ha husepāniti he ʻikai ke ne tauhi ʻene ngaahi fuakavá mo ʻene ngaahi fakapapaú.’”6

Naʻá ne maʻu ha fili faingataʻa: ko hono ʻapí pe ko ʻene angatonú. Ko ha tangata pe fefine angatonú ʻoku ʻikai moʻulaloa ia pe fakavaivai koeʻuhí pē he ʻoku faingataʻa pe mamafa pe ʻikai fakafiemālie. ʻOku maʻu ʻe he ʻEikí ha ongoʻi angatonu kakato he meʻá ni. Naʻá Ne folofola, “Ko hai au … ke u talaʻofa kae taʻe-fakahoko ia?” (T&F 58:31).

Ko e taha ʻo e sivi faingataʻa taha ʻo e angatonú pe ʻoku tau tauhi ʻa e ngaahi fekau mo e ngaahi palōmesi ne tau fakahokó pe ʻoku tau hoko ko ha ngaahi matāmama ʻi heʻetau leá.

7. Ko e angatonú ʻoku ʻikai puleʻi ia ʻe he ʻi ai ʻa e niʻihi kehé. ʻOku teke ia mei loto kae ʻikai mei tuʻa.

Pea kuo pau ke muiaki mai, ʻo hangē ko e poʻulí ʻi he ʻahó,

He ʻe ʻikai ke ke lava ʻo faihala ki ha tangata.8

Ko ha faleʻi fakaʻofoʻofa ia! ʻOku ʻi ai haʻatau fili. Ko haʻatau lava ʻo puke ʻa e mōmēnití ʻo mapuleʻi ʻetau moʻuí pe ko haʻatau hoko pē ko ha fanga kiʻi tamapua ki hotau ʻātakaí mo hotau kau takangá.

Te ke lava ʻo sio ponokalafi ʻi muʻa ʻi hoʻo faʻeé, ʻi he taha ʻokú mo teití, ʻi ho malí, pe ʻi hoʻo pīsopé? Kapau ʻoku hala ia ʻi he ʻao ʻo e niʻihi kehé, ʻoku hala tatau pē ʻi he ʻikai ke nau ʻi aí. Ko e tangata ʻoku angatonu kiate ia pea ki he ʻOtuá, te ne fili ʻa e totonú ʻo tatau ai pē pe ʻoku sio atu ha taha koeʻuhí he ʻokú ne teke pē ʻe ia ʻa ia, kae ʻikai puleʻi mei tuʻa.

Fakatauange ke hanga ʻe heʻetau loto angatonú ʻo fokotuʻu ha fakaʻilonga ʻi heʻetau moʻuí ʻoku tohi mataʻāʻā ʻuliʻuli ai, “HE ʻIKAI FAKATAU ATU IA ʻI HA FAʻAHINGA MAHUʻINGA” koeʻuhí ke tau tatau mo Hailame Sāmita ʻo lava ke pehē, “ʻOku monūʻia ʻa ʻeku tamaioʻeiki ko Hailame Sāmitá; he ko au ko e ʻEikí, ʻoku ou ʻofa ʻiate ia koeʻuhí ko e angatonu ʻo hono lotó” (T&F 124:15).

Fakatauange ke tau hoko kotoa ko ha kakai tangata mo fafine angatonu—ʻo ʻikai koeʻuhí he kuo pau ke tau pehē ka koeʻuhí he ʻoku tau loto ke pehē. Naʻe fakahā ʻe he ʻEikí ʻa e pale kiate kinautolu ʻoku fai peheé: “Ko e moʻoni ʻoku ou pehē kiate kimoutolu, ko kinautolu kotoa pē ʻiate kinautolu ʻa ia ʻoku nau ʻilo ʻoku angatonu … pea nau loto fiemālie ke tauhi ʻa ʻenau ngaahi fuakavá ʻi he feilaulaú … ʻoku ou tali ʻa kinautolu” (T&F 97:8; ko e toki tānaki atu hono fakamamafaʻí).

ʻOfa ke tali kitautolu ʻe he ʻOtuá koeʻuhí he ʻoku tau feinga ke hoko ko ha kau tangata mo ha kau fafine angatonu.
