Ka ki muʻa pea mavahe ʻa e tamaí naʻá ne fai ha lotu fakatapui nounou ʻi heʻene lea fakafonuá (faka-Tenimaʻaké) ʻo peheni: …

“‘Tamai Hēvani: Naʻá ke foaki mai kiate au ʻa e kiʻi koloá ni—ʻa e kiʻi tamasiʻi ʻofeiná ni, ka ko ʻeni kuó ke ui atu ia. ʻAloʻofa muʻa ʻo tuku ke toka malu heni hono sinó kae ʻoua kuo hoko ʻa e pongipongi ʻo e toetuʻú. Ke fai pē Ho finangaló. ʻĒmeni.’

“Pea ʻi heʻene tuʻu hake mei he kelekelé, ko ʻene lea māvaé ʻeni:

“‘Nofo ā, siʻoku ʻofaʻanga ko Hani—ko ʻeku kiʻi tamasiʻi talavoú.’ Pea ʻi he ʻulu punou mo e loto mamahi, ne hoko loto toʻa atu ʻi hono hala ki hono feituʻu nofoʻanga fakataimí.”1

Palesiteni Siosefa Sāmita (1805–44):

“Hono ʻikai fakafiemālie ki he kakai ʻoku tangí ʻi he taimi ʻoku ui ai ke nau māvae mo honau husepānití, uaifí, tamaí, faʻeé, fānaú pe kāinga ʻofeiná, ke nau ʻiloʻi neongo ʻoku tuku hifo ʻa e sino fakamāmaní ʻo ʻauha, ka te nau toetuʻu ʻo nofo ʻi he māfana taʻengatá ʻi he nāunau taʻe faʻamaté, ʻo ʻikai mamahi pe toe mate, ka te nau hoko ko e kau ʻea-hoko ʻo e ʻOtuá pea kaungā ʻea-hoko fakataha mo Sīsū Kalaisi.”2

Siosefa Uatesoni ʻIongi (1828–73), ‘ilamutu ‘o Pilikihami ‘Iongi na’e fononga mei ‘Ingilani ki he ‘Iunaiteti Siteití ʻi he 1853:

[“Ko ha meʻa fakamamahi ke sio ki hano tuku hifo siʻa taha ki he lōngonoa ʻo e moaná ʻi he houa lingolingoa ʻo e poó mo ha niʻihi taʻelata tokosiʻi pē ʻoku ʻi ai. … Naʻe ʻikai siʻano kāinga he vaká pe ha taha pau ke siʻi tēngihia ia tuku kehe pē ha kaungā tamaioʻeiki. Ko e ngaahi ʻamanaki fakaloloma ʻeni e natula ʻo e tangatá kuo tōnoa ʻi ha momeniti pē. Naʻe liʻaki ʻe he talavoú ni ʻa e meʻa kotoa ke hiki ki Saione, pea naʻe vela māfana hono lotó ʻi he loto vēkeveke ki he kahaʻú, ka naʻe ʻikai siʻane fakakaukau ʻe tuku hifo hono sino fakamatelié ki he peau hoú. Neongo ia, naʻe ʻikai mate ʻo hangē ko kinautolu naʻe taʻe ʻi ai ha ʻamanakí, he naʻe fakamelino mo hono ʻOtuá, pea naʻá ne maʻu ha fakamahino kakato ʻo ha toetuʻu nāunauʻia ʻi he pongipongi ʻo e kau angatonú.”]3

Palesiteni Pilikihami ʻIongi (1801–77):

[“He toki vanu mo ha ʻata fakapoʻuli moʻoni ia ʻoku tau ui ko e maté! Ke hiki atu mei he tuʻunga moʻui ko ʻeni ʻo e sino fakamatelié, ki ha tuʻunga māngoa, meʻa faikehe! Hono ʻikai fakapoʻuli ko e vanú ni! Hono ʻikai fakamisiteli ko e halá, pea kuo pau ke tau fononga tokotaha aí. ʻOku ou fie pehē kiate kimoutolu, ko hoku ngaahi kaumeʻa mo e kāinga, kapau ne tau lava ʻo mamata totonu ki he ngaahi meʻá ʻi honau angá, pea hangē ko ia te tau mamata mo mahino kiate kitautolú, ko e ʻata mo e vanu fakapoʻuli ko ʻení ʻoku mātuʻaki faingofua pea te tau tafoki ʻo vakavakai takai ai mo fakakaukau, ʻi he taimi kuo tau ʻosi kolosi atu aí, ta ko e tuʻunga lelei taha ʻeni ʻo ʻeku moʻuí kotoa, he kuó u mavahe mei ha tuʻunga ʻo e mamahí, loto mamahí, tangí, taʻe fiemālié, mamahi ʻo e sinó, faingataʻaʻiá mo e taʻe-manongá ki ha tuʻunga ʻo e moʻuí, ʻa ia te u lava ke maʻu ai ha moʻui ki he tuʻunga taupotu tahá kehe pē ke lava ʻo fakahoko ia taʻe ʻi ai ha sino.”4

President John Taylor (1808–87): Palesiteni Sione Teila (1808–87):

“Hono ʻikai fakafiemālie kiate kinautolu kuo pau ke nau tengihia ha mālōlō siʻanau ngaahi maheni, ke nau ʻilo te nau toe feohi pē! Hono ʻikai fakalotolahi kiate kinautolu kotoa ʻoku moʻui fakatatau mo e ngaahi tefitoʻi moʻoni kuo fakahā mai ʻe he moʻoní pea mahalo ʻo tautautefito kiate kinautolu ne moʻui aʻuaʻú, ne nau faingataʻaʻia mo kātaki ʻo aʻu ki he ngataʻangá, ke nau ʻilo he ʻikai fuoloa kuo tau toe tuʻu hake mei he ngaahi fonualotó, pea haʻu ko ha ngaahi laumālie moʻui taʻefaʻamate, ke toe feohi mo hotau ngaahi kaumeʻa ne siviʻi mo falalaʻiaʻí, ʻo ʻikai toe uesia ʻe he ngaahi nunuʻa ʻo e maté, pea mo fakaʻosi ʻa e ngāue ne tuku mai ʻe he Tamaí ke tau fakahokó!”6

Palesiteni Uilifooti Utalafi (1807–98):

“Ka ne taʻeʻoua ʻa e ongoongolelei ʻo Kalaisí, ʻe hoko ʻa e fakamāvaeʻi ʻe he maté ko e taha ʻo e ngaahi meʻa fakamamahi taha te tau ala fakakaukau atu ki ai; ka ʻi heʻetau maʻu ʻa e ongoongoleleí mo ʻilo ʻa e tefitoʻi moʻoni ʻo e toetuʻú, ʻoku mole atu leva ha konga lahi ʻo e mamahí, tangí pea mo e faingataʻaʻia ʻi he maté. … ʻOku hoko mai ʻa e toetuʻu ʻa e maté ki he ʻatamai maama ʻo e tangatá, ʻo ʻi ai leva ha fakavaʻe pau ke falala ki ai hono laumālié. Ko e meʻa ia ʻoku tui ki ai ʻa e Kāingalotu ʻo e Siasí [he ʻaho ní]. ʻOku mahino kiate kitautolu ʻoku ʻikai ke tau taʻe ʻilo fekauʻaki mo e meʻá ni; kuo ʻosi fakahā mai ia ʻe he ʻOtuá kiate kitautolu pea ʻoku mahino kiate kitautolu ʻa e tefitoʻi moʻoni ʻo e toetuʻu ʻa e maté, pea ʻoku fakaʻiloa mai kiate kitautolu ʻe he ongoongoleleí ʻa e moʻui taʻe-faʻa-maté.”8

Uiliami Tulaiva (William Driver) (1837–1920), taha paionia naʻe folau mei ʻIngilani ki Niu ʻIoke, USA, ʻi he 1866:

[“Naʻe puke lahi ʻa Uili, ʻa siʻeku tama ʻofaʻangá, he poó kotoa ʻo aʻu ki he 7:30 pongipongí, ko e taimi ia ne tukuange ai mei hono faingataʻaʻiá. ʻOfa ke tāpuakiʻi ʻe he ʻOtuá siʻono laumālié. Ne siʻi faingataʻaʻia lahi moʻoni. Naʻe hoko ʻene maté tuʻunga ʻi he taʻofi ʻa e saliote ʻa Misa Poulutaá ʻi he Moʻunga Seni ʻEní, ʻi Uanisiuefi, Sūlei, ʻi ʻIngilani. Hono ʻikai lahi ʻeku tēngihia e meʻa fakamamahi lahí ni. ʻEiki, tokoniʻi muʻa au ʻi ho mālohí ke u fuesia ia ʻo hangē naʻe mei ho toʻukupú mo ne fakalotoa au ke u tauhi faivelenga ki he ʻAfioná ʻo fakaʻeiʻeiki ange, pea fakatauange ke u moʻui ke teuteu ke feʻiloaki mo ia ʻi ha maama fiefia mo lelei ange mo siʻono tuofefine ko ʻIlisapeti Meleané, pea ʻofa ke u ʻi ai ʻi he toetuʻú ke feʻiloaki mo kinaua.”]9
