Lehi and Sariah Leave Jerusalem

The Lord’s warning to a family

Lehi and Sariah lived in Jerusalem with their children. Lehi saw a vision from the Lord. He saw that a Savior would come to the world one day. The Lord also showed him that Jerusalem would be destroyed.

Lehi told the people about his vision. He told them that Jesus Christ would come one day to save the world.

Lehi also told the people that Jerusalem would be destroyed. He invited them to repent.

The people were angry. The Lord spoke to Lehi again in a dream. Lehi learned that he and his family would not be safe in Jerusalem. They had to leave.

Lehi and Sariah obeyed the Lord. They left the city with their family. Lehi and Sariah had four sons named Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi. They had to leave behind their home and their nice things.

The family traveled in the wilderness next to the Red Sea. Lehi thanked the Lord for blessing his family. He taught his family to follow the Lord and keep His commandments.

Laman and Lemuel complained. They missed their home and all the things they had left behind. They did not understand why the Lord asked them to leave. They did not believe a big city like Jerusalem could be destroyed.

Laman and Lemuel thought that Lehi was imagining his visions. What if their family got lost in the wilderness forever?

Nephi wanted to know for himself that what Lehi said was true. He prayed and asked the Lord.

Nephi

The Lord sent the Holy Ghost to help Nephi believe his father’s words. Nephi believed the Lord and shared what he learned with his brothers. Sam listened to Nephi and believed him, but Laman and Lemuel did not listen.
