The Builders Face Opposition
Nehemiah 3 lists the names and groups of people who worked on rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and tells what part of the wall they worked on.
Nehemiah 4 tells how Sanballat, governor of the Samaritans, continued to mock and oppose the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls. When he discovered he could not stop the work by mocking the people, he attempted to physically attack the workers to stop them. But Nehemiah and the people prayed for the Lord’s help and put half of the workers on “guard duty.” The Lord protected them so they could continue their labors. These Jews had great faith in the Lord even in the midst of Satanlike mocking and opposition to their good works.
