Lamentations 2–4

Why Judah Was Punished

Lamentations 2–4 are expressions of sadness over what happened to the people of Judah. Lamentations 2 clearly states that the Lord punished His people because of their sins and for their own good. Lamentations 3 contains the expressions of a people that feel forsaken by the Lord but still trust and find hope in the thought that He has not forsaken them forever. Lamentations 4 records Jeremiah’s sorrow as he compares the way Israel lived as a righteous people with what they had become after the Babylonian conquest.
