The Book of Micah
A Messianic Prophecy
The name Micah means “who is like unto Jehovah.” Micah came from a small town in southern Judah (see Micah 1:1) and prophesied between approximately 740–697 B.C. during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah; Micah prophesied at about the same time as Isaiah. Micah’s message was to both Israel and Judah and contains words of doom and judgment as well as hope and a promise of a later, merciful restoration of the Lord’s people. Micah is most famous for his remarkable prophesy of the birth of the Messiah (see Micah 5:2).
