2:12Solomon See also Bathsheba; David In the Old Testament, a son of David and Bathsheba (2 Sam. 12:24). Solomon was for a time king of Israel. David named Solomon as king, 1 Kgs. 1:11–53. David charged Solomon to walk in the ways of the Lord, 1 Kgs. 2:1–9. The Lord promised him an understanding heart, 1 Kgs. 3:5–15. Judged between two mothers and ascertained the child’s real mother, 1 Kgs. 3:16–28. Spake proverbs and songs, 1 Kgs. 4:32. Built the temple, 1 Kgs. 6; 7:13–51. Dedicated the temple, 1 Kgs. 8. Visited by the queen of Sheba, 1 Kgs. 10:1–13. Solomon married outside Israel, and his wives turned his heart to the worship of false gods, 1 Kgs. 11:1–8. The Lord was angry with Solomon, 1 Kgs. 11:9–13. Died, 1 Kgs. 11:43. David prophesied of the glory of Solomon’s reign, Ps. 72. Solomon received many wives and concubines, but some were not received of the Lord, D&C 132:38 (Jacob 2:24).
