Fueling Your Body with Nutritious Food
Purpose
What we eat affects our bodies and minds! Learn to make healthy food choices and change unhealthy eating habits.
Description
This activity is best done in two parts:
-
As a group, decide on a healthy treat or even a meal that you can prepare and eat together. You may want to ask an expert on nutrition for ideas or help. You could assign people to provide various items. Decide when and where you will make the treat or meal.
-
Get together and make the treat or meal.
More Ideas
-
Draw your own food chart—Have an expert teach you about the healthy food choices you should make each day. Draw a pie chart with pictures on each “slice” of the pie representing how much of each item you should eat. How much dairy? Vegetables? Meat? Bread? What about treats?
-
A day in the life of my food—For at least one full day, keep track of everything you eat. Learn how to read serving sizes on product labels so you understand how much you’re eating compared to those serving sizes. For instance: how many servings do you actually pour in a bowl of cereal for breakfast?
-
Host a healthy eating seminar—Ask an expert on healthy eating such as a nutritionist, a doctor, or a chef to talk to your group about how to make healthy food choices. Plan and prepare nutritious snacks or treats to have at the end. Invite your friends!
-
Host a healthy dinner—Plan a nutritious meal and work together with some friends to prepare and cook the meal.
Discussion
Encourage participants to talk about what they are learning. Discussions can take place before, during, or after the activity. You could ask questions like the following:
-
Why do you think it is important to make healthy food choices?
-
When have you been blessed by following the healthy food choices given in the Word of Wisdom?
-
What feelings or impressions do you have about caring for your body by eating healthy food?
-
How can you apply what you are learning in your life?
