General Conference Review

Purpose

Have fun with family or friends while you learn from Church leaders and remember what they teach during general conference.

Description

Play a question-and-answer game to learn from general conference. As a group, watch or listen to a conference talk. Invite participants to write down one or more questions and answers related to the talk. Here is an example from “Spiritual Eclipse” by Elder Gary E. Stevenson (Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2017, 44–47):

Q. What did President Thomas S. Monson say he would like for his birthday?

A. He would like us to do something for someone who is having a hard time or is ill or lonely.

Collect the questions and answers from participants. Put them in a bag or bowl. Divide into teams. Have someone on the first team pick a question and read it to the second team. The second team tries to answer the question. Take turns so all teams have a chance to read questions and answer them.

More Ideas

  • Guess my voice—Play clips of speakers from general conference speaking and challenge the group to guess who the speaker is as quickly as possible.

  • Guess the picture—Write topics from general conference, such as “service” or “family,” on small pieces of paper. Fold them and put them in a bag or bowl. Let each person pick a piece of paper and draw a picture about the topic while other people try to guess what it is.

  • Get to know our leaders—Using information on the Prophets and Apostles site, write down some interesting facts about each leader. Have someone read the facts while participants try to guess who the leader is.

  • Act it out—Listen to a general conference talk as a group. Invite participants to write down a topic, scripture, or story from the talk on a piece of paper. When the talk is finished, ask participants to fold their papers and put them in a bag or bowl. Divide into teams. Have teams take turns picking a piece of paper from the bag or bowl and acting out the topic, scripture, or story.

Discussion

Encourage participants to talk about what they are learning. Discussions can take place before, during, or after the activity. You could ask questions like the following:

  • Why do you think it is important to listen to the words of our leaders in general conference?

  • What experiences have you had with general conference in the past?

  • What thoughts or impressions do you have about participating in general conference?

  • How can you apply what you are learning in your life?
