Fast with a Purpose
Purpose
Fasting is more than going without food. Fasting can teach our spirits how to control our bodies and desires. When we fast with a purpose, we receive Heavenly Father’s help to bring great blessings into our lives and the lives of those who matter to us.
Goal Description
Understand the power of fasting and bring its blessings into your life.
Goal Ideas
-
Make fasting a regular part of your life. Learn to fast for 24 hours (usually two full meals) and prayerfully choose a specific purpose for your fast. If you have a health challenge that makes fasting unadvisable, look for other ways you can practice the spirit of the fast.
-
Study the scriptures and general conference talks to learn more about fasting. How does the Lord want us to fast? What are the promised blessings?
-
The next time you fast, take time to prepare. If possible, eat a nutritious meal beforehand and be sure to drink enough water. Prayerfully choose a purpose for your fast. You may want to write your purpose in your journal.
-
Make a generous fast offering as part of your fast.
-
If you or someone you love is facing a challenge, fast for help with that challenge. While you are fasting, ponder and pray for guidance. Record any impressions you receive in your journal and act on those impressions.
-
Create your own goal.
