Purpose

“Seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom,” the Lord counseled in Doctrine and Covenants 109:7. There are a lot of books to choose from. As you choose and read the “best books,” you’ll learn and grow, and you’ll enjoy yourself too!

Goal Description

Regularly study and read good books.

Goal Ideas

  • What makes a book good? It’s more than the topic or plot. Make a list of qualities that make a book worth reading for you: for example, it’s uplifting, interesting, doesn’t contain offensive language, or doesn’t promote immorality. Then find and read books that have those qualities.

  • Create a reading list by asking trusted friends and family to suggest good books.

  • Visit your local library to find good books to read. If your library has a reading program, consider joining.

  • Try reading a type of book you might not normally read. For instance, if you usually read science fiction, try a historical novel instead.

  • Start a book club with your friends. Each month, choose an uplifting book to read, then get together to discuss it. Make it even more fun with treats!

  • Create your own goal.
