Purpose

Help plan a youth conference to build faith in Jesus Christ and strengthen testimonies. You can also develop talents, make new friends, and have fun with those who share the same beliefs and standards.

Description

At youth conference, young men and young women ages 14–18 participate together in a series of fun and uplifting activities. Youth conferences are usually held once each year on a ward or stake level. They may also be held on a multistake or area level. Youth conferences are planned and carried out by a committee of Aaronic Priesthood and Young Women leaders under the direction of the bishopric or stake presidency. You may be invited to assist the committee in planning youth conferences and to attend the committee’s meetings as needed.

The committee selects a gospel theme for the conference. It could be a scripture, the Mutual theme for the year, or a quotation from a living prophet. The bishopric or stake presidency should approve the theme. As invited, you can help leaders plan activities such as devotionals, group meetings, learning experiences, and service projects that are consistent with the theme.

Members of the bishopric or stake presidency are invited to attend as much of the conference as possible. Young Men and Young Women presidencies are encouraged to attend the entire conference.

As you participate in planning, consider the following:

  • Give input on the types of activities you would like to have. You could also give suggestions for possible themes.

  • Make sure everyone has the chance to make a meaningful contribution.

  • Help determine the structure of the conference—meal times, scripture study times, devotionals, speakers, and so forth. Fill in the remaining time with learning experiences and service projects that are consistent with the theme.

For policies related to youth conferences, see Handbook 2: Administering the Church (2010), 13.4.

As you plan this activity, please follow the counsel given in chapter 13 of Handbook 2: Administering the Church (2010) and review “Safety Recommendations for Church Activities.”
