Be in Charge of Your Body
Purpose
The gift of your body includes physical appetites and desires that can seem very powerful at times. But with the Lord’s help and through righteous use of your agency, you can use them in a way that will bring you the greatest happiness.
Goal Description
Learn how to manage your physical appetites and desires in a healthy way.
Goal Ideas
-
Make a plan now for what to do if you have thoughts that could lead you toward losing self-control:
-
Change your circumstances (take a walk, call a friend, go outside, play a game).
-
Change your thoughts (focus on things you are grateful for, scriptures you have memorized, Primary songs, or a project you like).
When you see or hear something tempting, let that be your reminder to practice your plan (check out President Boyd K. Packer’s advice).

-
When you’re feeling tempted is not the best time to make a decision about self-control. Study For the Strength of Youth or other resources, and decide ahead of time that you will observe the Word of Wisdom, the law of chastity, and other commandments that will keep your body healthy and pure.
-
Set goals to exercise regularly, eat nutritious meals, and get enough sleep. It’s easier to manage physical desires when you’re healthy and well-rested.
-
Your media choices can make it easier or harder to control your thoughts and desires. Make a goal to watch and listen only to uplifting media.
-
Practice the law of the fast. It can help you learn how to have your spirit control your body.
-
Create your own goal.
