Cook Right, Eat Right, and Be Healthier

youth preparing food

Purpose

What we eat affects our bodies and minds. If we don’t take care of the bodies that Heavenly Father has given us, we can lose the Spirit. No matter what your health is like, you can make it better by eating better.

Goal Description

Learn to make and eat healthy food.

Goal Ideas

  • Study the Word of Wisdom (see Doctrine and Covenants 89). Study the promises made to those who live the Word of Wisdom (see verses 18–21). Prayerfully set a goal that will help you live the Word of Wisdom more fully.

  • Find recipes for healthy meals, snacks, and, yes, even desserts! Try them out. When you find things you really love, add them to your collection of favorite recipes.

  • Choose one meal a day (breakfast, lunch, or dinner) to make over into a healthier option. Pick whole grains, produce, and lean proteins instead of fried or refined foods.

  • Read the Bible story of Daniel and his friends, and what happened when they chose to eat healthy foods (see Daniel 1). For a week, try to make all your meals and snacks as healthy as possible. Write in your journal about your experience. What differences did you notice in your energy level and mood? What longer-term goals can you make to keep eating healthy foods?

  • Create your own goal.
