Purpose

Communication is vital in any relationship. And it’s a two-way street: good communication means that you speak and listen in ways that let people know you value and respect them. When you communicate clearly, you can lift and strengthen those around you. Good communication even makes it easier to share the gospel!

Goal Description

Practice talking and listening well.

Goal Ideas

  • Sarcastic, rude, and unkind comments may be common, but they don’t help create good relationships. Set a goal to reduce and then eliminate comments that might hurt others or make them feel less important.

  • Meet five new people each week. Ask each person questions about themselves and try to remember their names and something about each of them for the next time you talk.

  • No one likes to be cut off in the middle of a story or thought. If you have a habit of interrupting others, set a goal to listen without interruption, and wait for breaks in a conversation to share your thoughts.

  • When you’re talking with someone, remove as many distractions as possible so that you can focus on your conversation—for instance, turn off the TV, silence and put away your phone, or turn down the music.

  • Create your own goal.
